Ai-powered templates for nonprofit fundraising

Overview

My team at GoFundMe built AI-powered fundraiser templates that enable supporters to quickly launch nonprofit fundraisers around meaningful occasions.

Role

  • Lead designer

  • Content design lead

  • Interim PM lead

  • Design system contributor

Impact

  • ↑ 72% improved publish ratios

  • 25% of all fundraisers use quick start templates

The Problem

People want to support causes they care about, but starting a fundraiser feels like work. We needed to improve the time it took between starting a fundraiser and publishing, which involved 8 individual steps. We were seeing a lot of dropoff at this stage as people struggled with writing compelling stories, creating titles, and finding images. Additionally, there was low awareness around fundraising for nonprofits on GoFundMe

Hypothesis

If we provide supporters with meaningful moments to fundraise around like birthdays, graduations, and weddings where gift-giving is already expected, we can shift the cultural norm from receiving personal gifts to giving to nonprofits on someone's behalf.

Additionally, if we can reduce the standard 8-step flow for starting a fundraiser by generating custom content crafted using AI and personalized to the nonprofit's mission, then we can increase the success of users publishing fundraisers and successfully raising money for causes they care about.

Business Impact

Since our MVP release in Q1 2025, quick start moment templates have improved publish ratios by ~72%. This means supporters actually launch their fundraisers instead of abandoning them. And now, 25% of all nonprofit fundraisers are from quick-start templates, demonstrating strong adoption.
